I Want to Believe is Josh Coffee's second EP, released a couple months after his first EP, Garden. Despite the close proximity in time, the two EPs tell very different stories. Where Garden was more subtle and inviting, I Want to Believe slowly shapeshifts into more punchy, menacing territory.
As the EP moves from front to back, we travel first through longer, more beguiling scenery, slowly making our way toward scorched earth.
"It's All Around You" is one of Coffee's most uplifting pieces to date, depicting a sparkly aura that dances around us, set against grunge guitar riffage and meandering melodies. "Trash" is a gritty, pre-apocalyptic house tune that cements itself as the most club-ready track from both Garden and I Want to Believe. "Slime Ball" is an acid metal breakbeat scorcher that leaves nothing alive. "Beware the Broken Mirror" is a cursed UK bass banger that completes the EPs overall transform from light to dark.
